Roberta Shouse Scholarship Fund
San Bernardino County Bar Association is pleased to announce the establishment of the “WSBCBA Roberta Shouse Legal Aid Scholarship Fund,” to be awarded annually at our Judicial Officer of the Year Dinner each Spring to one or two deserving law students who will be spending their summer working for the Legal Aid Society of San Bernardino. Donation forms are available in this month’s newsletter. Please fill out the form and return it to the Bar office, indicating which amount you would like to contribute to the upcoming March, 2014 scholarship recipient and which amount you would like to donate to the general scholarship endowment fund.
Roberta Shouse was awarded the WSBCBA Legal Assistant of the Year Award posthumously at last month’s Installation Dinner. Roberta was the Executive Director of Legal Aid San Bernardino from its inception in 1978 until her death on July 4, 2013. The society provides the poorest in the county with access to justice. She was a lifetime resident of San Bernardino and she received her AA degree in sociology from Valley College in 1964. She administered the clinic for 35 years, providing free or low-cost legal services to poor families throughout San Bernardino County.
Roberta also served on the San Bernardino County and California Commissions on the Status of Women, chaired the county Civil Service Commission, and was involved in many charities, public services, and hosted a weekly public access TV program entitled Legal Issues.
